Lide received a B.S. degree in chemistry at University of Science and Technology of China, after which he began his Ph.D. career at North Carolina State University under the guidance of Prof. Wei-chen Chang. Lide's doctoral research focused on the identification and mechanistic study of novel iron-dependent oxygenases. In the van der Donk lab, Lide is working on the generation of RiPP libraries for investigation of avian influenza virus.
